Biography

Dr. Camell did her graduate work under the supervision of Dr. C.Wayne Smith at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Tx. She received a F31 fellowship to help her pursue the doctoral degree. Her doctoral project focused on identifying initial events that occur during diet-induced inflammation using a high saturated fat diet, with the expectation that elucidating these events would help identify potential mechanisms for the prevention of chronic inflammation or insulin resistance that are associated with obesity. She joined Dr. Vishwa Deep Dixit lab as a postdoctoral fellow in 2014. Her current projects has carried on her interests in the origin of inflammation by focusing on understanding the role of adipose tissue macrophages and how they survey the tissue to promote tissue homeostasis. Her projects seek to further understand the changes that occur with aging and the contribution of immune cells to age-related metabolic dysfunction.
